Anointing of the Sick

 

The special grace of the sacrament has its effects: uniting the sick to the passion of Christ; strengthening, peace and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of illness or old age; forgiveness of sins if the sick is not able to go to confession; restoration of health if conducive to the salvation of his soul; the preparation for the passing over to eternal life. It is a sacrament by which Jesus Christ gives us comfort and strength to the soul, and sometimes to the body, of someone who is dangerously ill due to sickness, injury, or old age.
