Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten season, a sacred time for Christians to reflect, repent, and prepare for the joy of Easter. This day reminds us of our mortality and calls us to turn away from sin and embrace the Gospel.
The central symbol of Ash Wednesday is the imposition of ashes, made from the blessed palm branches of the previous year. These ashes are placed on the foreheads of the faithful in the shape of a cross while the priest or minister says, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return,” or “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” This profound act represents humility, penance, and our dependence on God's mercy.
Lent invites us to deepen our relationship with God through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. It is a time for self-examination and spiritual renewal, culminating in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter.

As we begin this sacred season, we invite all parishioners and visitors to join us for Ash Wednesday Masses at St. Mary Parish, National City, on March 5, 2025. The Mass schedule is as follows:
